Personal Supports Annual Training

It’s that time of year again! Workers providing direct support care to a Participant under Minnesota Licensed Services (Personal Supports) must complete Annual Training by October 31st. Training is available online on October 1st. This training is mandated by the Minnesota statute and a requirement for continued employment.

Who completes Annual Training?

If you were hired before October 2017, you will receive training instructions for 2017 Annual Training on October 1st 2017 from PICS Human Resources. For example, if you were hired in June 2017, you will need to complete Annual Training this year.

Why do I have to do training?

You must complete 6 hours or 12 hours of training each year as mandated by Minnesota statute for continued employment.

The number of hours is based on your years of related experience. The specific annual training has been pre-assigned:

  • Less than 5 years of direct support experience - 12 hours of annual training
  • 5 or more years of direct support experience - 6 hours of annual training

How do I complete training?

Personal Supports training is completed online by going to the College of Direct Supports website. 
 

You must log onto the site with your assigned username and password:

  • Username: (First Initial, Last Name, Last 4 digits of Social Security number)
    *Example: JSmith1234
  • Password: hello 
    *Do not change password. It must remain “hello.”

Once logged on, the home page will indicate your assigned training. The training can be completed in one sitting or on different days. It can be completed on your computer, tablet, or smart phone.

When is training due?

2017 Annual Training is due on October 31st, 2017.

Will I get paid for training hours?

You can be reimbursed for completed training hours at $9.50 per hour (it is optional). To be reimbursed, you must submit a timesheet OR email to PICS Human Resources directly indicating completed training hours. The timesheet cannot be submitted through the portal because training hours are not paid through the Participant's budget.

You can be reimbursed for up to 6 hours or 12 hours of completed training, depending on the training assigned to you:

  • Less than 5 years of direct support experience - 12 hours of annual training
  • 5 or more years of direct support experience - 6 hours of annual training

What if I don’t complete it on time?

If PICS Human Resources hasn't received your completed training by the given due date, you cannot provide direct support services to the Participant until your training is complete.
