Valuing and Supporting Military Members and Families
Each Memorial Day, we remember and honor loved ones in our lives who have died. May is Military Appreciation Month, and Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) also remembers and honors individuals who gave their lives as members of the armed forces. We value them and their contributions to Minnesota and the United States.
LSS recognizes the impact of military service. We are committed to supporting veterans, military members and their families through a broad range of high-quality, supportive services. Those services include:
- Caregiver support & respite
- Financial counseling
- Housing
- Mental health services
- Nutrition
LSS serves more than 16,000 veterans and their family members each year. We work in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) and County Veterans Service Officers (CVSOs).
As a partner with MDVA, LSS responds directly to the challenges veterans and their families face through the CORE (Counseling and Casework, Outreach, Referral and Education) program. CORE services are free to eligible veterans and include casework, caregiver support & respite, financial counseling, housing and behavioral health services.
LSS brings specialized expertise to serving veterans as a PsychArmor Institute certified Veteran Ready Organization. PsychArmor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating civilians and organizations serving veterans to better understand military culture and veteran experiences.
Our goal is for each veteran, military service member and military family member to find the right supports at the right time. Learn more about LSS’ military and veterans services and CORE. You can also contact CORE at 844.577.2673.
