Connecting Refugees to Employment
When refugees first arrive in the United States, they are eager to work and find employment to sustain their families. We help them with job skills training, resume writing, interviewing and overall job readiness. Our goal is to help refugee families gain self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
A new study by the Fiscal Policy Institute and Tent Partnership reports that three-quarters of refugees stay longer on the job than other employees. When refugees have good experiences with employers, they also tell their friends – opening the door to other workers and recruitment opportunities.
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota has a long and successful history working with many employers in the Twin Cities and in Greater Minnesota to place new arrivals in their first jobs. We work with employers in many job sectors:
- Manufacturing and Assembly
- Hospitality and Hotel Industry
- Health Care
- Food Services
- Sanitation and Cleaning Services
- Transportation
- Warehouse and Fulfillment
- Service Industry
We have a multilingual and multicultural staff that can team with employers when assistance is needed with interpreters, job coaching or cross-cultural training. We also work with refugees to help them understand important qualities required in the workplace, such as teamwork, a strong work ethic, a good attitude and how to problem solve.
