Strengthening Service Members and Their Families
Since 2008, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) to support military members, veterans and their families in maintaining their wellbeing through the Minnesota Service CORE program. CORE stands for casework, outreach, referral and education.
CORE services can foster greater peace of mind and resiliency, support the development of new skills to cope with challenges and improve relationships.
LSS is a PsychArmor Institute certified Veteran Ready organization committed to supporting those who have served and their families.
Our Services
Behavioral Health Counseling
Our dedicated, trauma-trained team understands that the military has its own culture and that civilian life can be challenging both during and after service. Our team offers compassionate, effective support and many of our team members are veterans themselves.

Caregiver Support & Respite
Caregiver Support & Respite services can empower you, increase your caregiving skills, reduce isolation, offer breaks and support your overall well-being.

- Caregiver Support Groups
- Telephone Reassurance
- Caregiver Training and Education
Case Management
Whatever challenges you are facing, our case managers assess each individual’s situation. They create a personalized plan identifying beneficial services and resources found at LSS or through our large network of providers across the state.
Financial Counseling
Financial counseling offers judgment-free guidance and tools that equip you to achieve financial wellness.

- Student Loan Counseling
Homeless Initiative
Our Behavioral Health and Housing Services partner together to offer options for short- and long-term shelter for veterans. If you are a veteran and unable to find shelter, please contact us for more information.
Support Groups
Our support, therapy and wellness groups are facilitated by team members trained in trauma-informed care and experienced in working with veterans, military members and their families.
