LSS STEAM Freedom School
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) is hosting the LSS STEAM Freedom School© in North Minneapolis again this summer through a partnership with Children's Defense Fund (CDF). Children will have the opportunity to participate in free summer programming that builds academic skills through high-quality STEM education and summer reading activities. We have many exciting opportunities available within our school. From registering your child in Freedom School © programming to applying for one of our summer job postings, there are many ways to join the Freedom School © movement!

Registration Process
Thirty LSS STEAM Freedom School © scholars will receive a free, six-week summer program that includes all meals and transportation. Scholars who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible.

Parent Participation
Parents are asked to attend one parent orientation and six weekly parent engagement nights while Freedom School © is in session.
- Parent orientation will be held in-person on Wednesday, June 28 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Christ River of Life Church in Minneapolis.
- Parent engagement nights will be held each Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. during the weeks while Freedom School © is in session. These engagement nights are an important requirement of the program.

Servant Leader Intern (2)
The role of the Freedom School Servant Leader Intern is for college-age young adults and recent college graduates. Each CDF Freedom School Servant Leader Intern serves as the teacher for a maximum of 10 students. Servant Leader Interns have access to further leadership development and networking opportunities geared toward continued direct service and advocacy on behalf of children and families.
This position provides advocacy services focused on the following: youth mentoring, academic engagement and performance, diversion from the criminal justice system, basic needs support, parent support and connection to services, and other family needs for youth on probation.

Junior Servant Leader Intern (4)
The role of the Junior Servant Leader Intern is for high school age students to work alongside college-age young adult in providing school-age scholars grades K-8 in a culturally relevant and educational summer learning experience. Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) serve as teachers to a maximum of 10 scholars, while Junior Servant Leader Interns (JSLIs) help co-create an environment in which scholars are engaged in learning that is enriching and relevant to each of their unique cultural identities. Junior Servant Leader Interns have access to further leadership development and networking opportunities geared toward continued direct service and advocacy on behalf of children and families.
