Voter Outreach Fellow

Participating in the elections process is an important part of LSS’ vision that all people have the opportunity to live in community with full and abundant lives. Decisions made by elected officials impact our work, our communities and the lives of the people we support. Additionally, we have the power to disrupt historical voting inequities that persist in our communities, and you have the trust and access needed to reach voters who are often overlooked by partisan political campaigns and who face other barriers to voting. Below are the goals of this Voter Outreach Fellowship:

1. Increase voter registration in Hennepin County, particularly amongst communities who have not traditionally been supported to vote and are underrepresented in the political process
2. Voter fellows gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to successfully advocate on issues that impact their communities
3. Engage community through work that is relevant to them

LSS Advocacy shares nonpartisan information to help ensure that all Minnesotans have equitable access to voting. LSS does not support, endorse or oppose any candidate or political party.

Roles and responsibilities

The Voter Outreach Fellow will volunteer and engage in voter outreach, education, and assistance. For example:

• Participate in an Advocacy Training at the MN State Capitol or virtual.
• Participate in tabling in community and at community events where they will talk to potential voter, sharing voter materials and assist in voter registration
• Participate in outreach to legislator(s) or candidates in your district. Outreach includes attending candidate forums, meeting with your legislator, or connecting with them virtually.
• Social Media: Voter education and awareness to your network (sharing important upcoming election dates, helping people know their rights, etc). Sharing voter posts from Hennepin County Elections or LSS.

• Planning and executing voter engagement events
• Post-election engagement

Volunteers must remain nonpartisan during work with this project, not implicitly or explicitly supporting or endorsing a candidate or party for office.

LSS Advocacy Office will

1. Provide nonpartisan voter information and training
2. Be accessible to support volunteers
3. Connect volunteers to other staff or resources with LSS as needed
4. Provide volunteer stipends - $15 per hour for their fulfilment of the above responsibilities.
